A pretty, medium blue lapis with a few flecks of pyrite, has been cut into a 17 mm cushion shape. It is set in an 18k yellow gold bezel, which coordinates perfectly with the pyrite. The pyrite reminds me of a constellation. The remainder of the ring, including the 6 mm heavy band, is sterling silver. I've set the beautiful lapis at an angle on the finger to add a little drama and did not feel it needed any added embellishments. A beautiful, minimal, statement ring.

It was thought to provide protection to the wearer as well as to shield him or her from negative influences. It was also ground up and used as eye shadow. The best quality lapis, a deep blue without much white calcite, is found in Afghanistan, with other sources in Russia and Chile.***
